BACKGROUND

Tilly III is a famous 1950s offshore racer; she was custom designed and built, to order, by Morgan Giles in Teignmouth and was state of the art in her day. She has been fully restored by her present owner, a former boatbuilder, for himself. She has cruised over 8,000 miles since her re-launch in 2004, mostly two-handed.

She is carvel-built of mahogany planks on oak ribs, with copper fastenings. She has a lead keel with bronze bolts, which were X-rayed in 1990 by her previous owner. She is sloop rigged with a deck-stepped mast, leaving more room below. She has full standing headroom throughout below. She sails beautifully when most classics of that era need the engine. Post-restoration and recent surveys are available to seriously interested parties. The survey concludes that “she is in better than new condition”. There are very few opportunities to buy a Classic yacht of this size, restored to this condition.

RECENT CHANGES

Since many of the photographs shown were taken, Tilly III has had a new teak deck laid, while the topsides have been repainted in Awlgrip Stars and Stripes Blue. She has also had a new Lofrans electric anchor windlass installed.
